Connecting Kalendar AI with $300,000

It Takes A Village To Raise Capital

The first time I came across Kalendar AI was through our general intake form we put together in early 2021, when our brand was called Growthmeter and Kalendar AI was still called KRYA AI. Good times. We got quite a few interest forms filled out that day, but in hindsight, Kalendar AI was the one that sticks out the most based on the journey I now know we went on.

When we saw his form come through, I wanted to chat with him and learn more about what he was working on. Naturally, when we triggered that we wanted to meet him in our backend, the link in the email we sent was broken. Classic early stage startup struggles.

Of course, we did end up connecting and I learned more about what he was working on at Kalendar AI. It essentially used GPT-3 to prospect new accounts and send them hyper personal emails, all powered by AI (but actually). In other words, it was an SDR that could operate 24/7 and never complained. Damn. Well, after our first call, I knew I wanted to help Ravi get funded. So we took him through our process at the time, which was a little more manual than today’s process. Remember, this was two years ago. As part of that process, I introduced him to Eric Ries, who was the first investor in Seedscout and sometimes helps companies he likes from our ecosystem get funded from his network.

Through my network, Eric’s network, and the Seedscout general network, we sent out tons of intro requests to all the tier one folk you’ve probably heard of like Flybridge, Village Global, Basecamp Fund, Hustle Fund, CRV, Bowery Capital, First Round, Floodgate, etc. The list goes on and on. Naturally, it wasn’t a fit for some of the firms after first meeting.

Yet, just 5 weeks after Ravi filled out the form on our website for funding, one firm ended up investing $300,000 into the round; Village Global!

Eventually, he used this momentum to raise his whole seed round with Village Global, Eric Ries, Asymmetry, Locus, and Metaplanet totaling $3.2M.

Not bad. Strangers at the beginning of 2021, then 5 weeks later, we’re helping Kalendar AI get $300,000 and eventually, watching their full round come together + get a feature in Techcrunch. You love to see it. What I love even more is nearly a year after we connected him with Village Global, he tweeted out that we helped him out in a big way in 2021. We appreciated the tweet, Ravi. Now that AI is becoming more mainstream, I am excited to see how Kalendar AI dominates the market. Onward and upward!
